It only took the brothers two years of planning to open the first Atomic Café on Cabot Street. In early 2000, the brothers started roasting coffee in order to create a point of difference with other cafes. Immediately after opening the Atomic Café, the brothers felt frustrated by the companies they were buying the coffee from. This was very challenging for them, mainly because they were the only micro-roasters in the area. They roasted on the Diedrich IR7 in the main Cabot Street Café to make coffee lovers aware of what they were trying to achieve, sourcing, roasting even serving great coffee.
